Yes, that’s right….Beautiful rice! Now look at that; that’s some beautiful rice, isn’t it?
I know–all my rice-farmer buddies are saying, “Man, my daddy used to make us walk along the edge of our rice fields and pull all that black and red rice up!” And now look at us; paying triple for your daddy’s “weeds.” Oh well, times change, my friend. Times change.
So here’s what I do (my cheapskate side is gonna show):
I buy a 2 # bag of long-grain brown rice (cheapest I can find) @ $1.98
a 1# bag of Black Japonica rice @ $2.98
a 1# bag of wild blend rice (has brown, wild, Wehani, and Black Japonica) @ $3.18
I empty all the bags into a large bowl and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon; I store my Beautiful Rice in an air-tight canister. It keeps indefinitely.
To cook: in a medium-sized saucepan or electric rice cooker, add 1 1/2 cups Beautiful Rice and 2 1/2 cups water. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Lower heat to low, cover, and cook on low for 25-30 minutes, or until rice is tender.
To make my Beautiful Rice even healthier, I’ll mix in a cup of quinoa and a cup of Beautiful Rice with 3 cups water. I bring the water/grain mix to a rolling boil in a medium-sized saucepan, then lower the heat to low, cover and cook for 25-30 minutes, or until rice is tender.
