A great Christmas or Easter cookie. It’s a little time consuming, but fun.
1 cup butter, softened ½ tsp. almond extract
1½ cup confectioner’s sugar 2½ cups flour
1 egg 1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. clear vanilla 1 tsp. cream of tartar
Mix together butter, confectioner’s sugar, egg, vanilla & almond extract.
Blend together flour, baking soda & cream of tartar. Add to butter mixture and stir to mix.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 2-3 hours. Divide dough in half and roll each half to 3/16 thickness on a floured surface. Cut into shapes with cookie cutter and place on parchment lined baking sheets. Bake at 375 for 7-10 minutes or just until lightly browned.
Mix together small batches of confectioner’s sugar and milk to a firm consistency. Add a few drops of food coloring. Frost cooled cookies.
